Encounters with Canada ends the summer in style

On August 12, 2015, Encounters with Canada (EWC) welcomed its neighbours and friends, employees and families to a greatly anticipated event – its annual community BBQ!

This year, more than 100 adults and children gathered for the time of their lives, participating in fun-filled activities and sharing a delicious picnic-style meal in the open air of the beautiful grounds of the Terry Fox Centre Canadian youth.

Said Director General Linda Brunet: “We have been holding this community event for many years - and I think we set an all-time attendance record, this year! This is a great opportunity for EWC employees to build relationships with the community. It’s always a pleasure to welcome our neighbours and friends to the Centre. And it’s heartwarming to see the kids having such a good time together,” concluded Mrs. Brunet, herself a proud grandmother of seven.

On this delightful afternoon, guests mingled and participated in pirate-themed games, fishing like pirates, identifying pirate provisions placed in jars, dressing up and taking funny pictures in a photo booth, playing a friendly game of volleyball, and so much more. With each activity, participants collected gold coins to amass their own personal treasure.

The meal – as always, scrumptious - beef and chicken burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, salads, vegetables and homemade salsa. And for dessert, delicious chocolate-covered strawberries. What a treat!

As the windup to this fun-filled day, everyone was invited to try their luck at smashing open candy-filled treasure-chest-shaped piñatas. What fun - and a great way to end the summer!

Welcome back everyone!
