Law participants attend the inauguration of Governor General Ray Hnatyshyn
EWC Law participants had the honour of attending the swearing-in ceremony of His Excellency Ramon “Ray” Hnatyshyn, 24th Governor General of Canada (1990-1995), at Rideau Hall. In this position, he presided over many events and celebrations, including Canada’s 125th anniversary of Confederation. Considered a populist, he opened up Rideau Hall and its grounds to the public and established a visitors’ centre and initiated guided tours. After his term as Governor General, he once again practised law and then served as Chancellor of Carleton University for a short time before his death in 2002. On March 16, 2004, Canada Post unveiled a postage stamp in his honour.
