Encounters with Canada opens its doors
Encounters with Canada, originally a program of the Canadian Unity Council, opened its doors for the very first time to teenagers across Canada. The program was held at the Terry Fox Canadian Youth Centre, formerly the 2.6-acre Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, which underwent eight months of extensive renovations. The Encounters’ program was offered for 11 weeks in 1982, from September to early December, and offered six themes that first year, including Arts & Culture, Science & Technology, Canadian Studies, Natural Resources & Environment, Law and the Economy.
