The next generation of media specialists is inspired by expert panelists
More than a hundred young participants enrolled in the fall 2009 Journalism and Communication week were invited to the Media Literacy Week 2009 launch, “Empowering Canadian Youth for the Digital World,” organized jointly by the Media Awareness Network and the Canadian Teachers' Federation.
This event served to emphasize the increasing need for digital literacy in the lives of today's connected youth, and to explore how digital media is changing the face of journalism and news gathering in the 21st century.
A panel of journalists, communicators, a cameraman and a news anchor spoke about their roles, as well as the challenges and opportunities, in this age of digital media.
The Encounters with Canada participants, aspiring journalists and media specialists of the future, enthusiastically took part, sharing their ideas and seeking advice from the experienced panel.
